philmophlegm: (Bush Tucker Man)
A somewhat obscure song 24 in my top 100, at least outside of Australia. A friend and colleague who has since moved to Edinburgh introduced me to them as the sort of band he thought I'd like. He was right. I haven't the faintest idea where he heard them first. They don't seem to be well known outside of Australia.

Anyway, this song is all about Kate Kelly, sister of Ned Kelly, of Kelly Gang fame.

philmophlegm: (Mist over the Tamar)
Anyone hear remember Bruce Hornsby? He had a couple of big hits in the 80s with 'The Way It Is' and 'The Valley Road'. This was a single, but not a hit. He's been turning out albums fairly regularly since then, most of which I've bought. Back in the 80s, he was a very talented pianist and a very talented songwriter. Regrettably many of the albums in the 90s and 00s were big on the piano playing, but much lighter on the great songwriting (although his last couple of albums have been much better). It's a very sad song. Sometimes, you just want to listen to a sad song.
