I've never done this before, and it's quite a nice thing to be able to do. Our graduate applicants have to go through a fairly complicated process involving a manager interview, numeracy and verbal reasoning tests, a group exercise, an electronic in-tray exercise and a formal presentation to a partner. I've been doing the first (manager) interviews for a while, but recently Plymouth office's only partner decided he didn't want to do interviews any more, so me and another senior manager (as the two next most senior auditors in the office) have been trained up to do the partner interviews and presentations to partner.

Today was the third such interview I have done, and the first where the candidate has passed. And I got to ring her up and give her the good news.

Which was nice...

It is a nice feeling isn't it? I always liked giving people jobs, firing them on the other hand, not so nice :-(

One of the advantages of a big organisation is that we have departments to give people bad news!

Ah, it's so nice to be heading for a career where neither hiring nor firing will ever be part of my job. :)
