Give me some quiz questions...

I'm running another quiz night on October 2nd for Launceston Chamber of Commerce. And I haven't started the questions yet, which is leaving it a little late.

So if you have some questions that will fit into the following rounds, please suggest some. Each round has ten questions, and they are supposed to get harder; so question 1 in each round should be easy and question 10 should be hard enough that perhaps no more than two people in the room get it right.

The rounds are:

• Film & television


• Geography (maybe - I might change this)


• Music (again, I might change this)


• Sports & games


• History


• Baking (formerly food & drink, but we allow sponsors of rounds to ask for particular subjects and this time, a sponsoring coffee shop that specialises in home-made cakes has asked for a baking round)


• Science & nature


• Something else


• Something else (we used to have a Cornwall round and a Devon round, but those are hard questions to come up with, and this will be the fifth such quiz I've run)


• Famous last words (my aunty suggested this last night, perhaps limiting it to fictional characters)

Tell you what, to make this more fun, I'll screen comments. If you can put the question in one comment, and the answer in another, I'll unscreen the questions only and everyone else can have a go at answering them. But don't just limit questions to really hard ones - it's not that kind of quiz. Trivial Pursuit is the right level, not University Challenge.

Science & Nature:

Q1 - What's the link between a blackcock and a greyhen?

Q2 - Which weighs more: a wren or a wood mouse?

Q3 - How often does a spring tide occur? (This could be a geography question too)

Q4 - How much does a litre of water weigh?

Er... typo in the wood mouse - that should be 13 TO 27g not 13.27.

I shall try to think of some more science & nature ones for you. BTW if you ever need science fiction or fantasy quiz stuff, I have several quizzes that I've run at Armadacon in Plymouth, but they have some uber-nerd questions in them.

Q1 - They are names for the male and female black grouse.
Q2 - Wood mouse is heavier (13.27g) than the wren (8-13g).
Q3 - Spring tide occurs every 14.75 days.
Q4 - A litre of water weighs 1kg.

Of course if you used 5, you wouldn't really be able to do 4, they're kind of an either/or thing.

Re 3 and 4, one of my favourite books to read to the boys was The Mousehole Cat, which has beautiful illustrations and a lovely lyrical flow to the words. I'm a little sad that even Fro has rather outgrown it now.

We had a quiz at work last week (which my team stormed to victory in), we had several different rounds to normal they included last lines of films, guess the film from the music, name that musical when given 3 songs from it and lines from Shakespeare plays where you had to guess the play, if you want any of those questions let me know, the quiz master was my ex-boss so I'm sure he'd pass them on.
