'For America' by Red Box.

From the album 'The Circle and the Square'. You know I said that when I was young I had this weird thing about only liking instrumentals? Well, this is the first album with actual lyrics I ever got. Christmas present in 1986. Which is also the same Christmas I got a personal stereo (not a Sony Walkman, but similar) and a whole bunch of Traveller stuff (including Alien Module 5: Droyne, hence the userpic). I have a distinct memory of spending some part of Christmas Day listening to this album on my new personal stereo while reading about the Ancients...

Crap video though.

Final piece of Red Box trivia. If wikipedia is to be believed, Anthony ' Gold Blend' / 'Buffy' Head provides backing vocals on this album. That would pre-date the Gold Blend ads I think.

I do believe I have the vinyl LP at Stepmother's house in Germany :-)

For a long time the album was unavailable - whatever the musical equivalent of 'out-of-print' was and CD copies went for ridiculous prices on eBay. bunn was part of the campaign to get Warner to reissue it - there was a petition and she wrote to the them pointing out that if secondhand copies were going for three figure sums, then surely there was enough demand for a reissue. In fact they reissued the first album and the very obscure second album 'Motive'. The band then released a third album 'Plenty' in 2010.

Still one of my favourite albums and until the CD reissue, I only had it in cassette format, and had long since got rid of any cassette players!

Oh yes, I had this album... until the tape stretched and warped it into incomprehensibility.

If it is available again, I must go have a look-see next time I'm flush.

Wow, that was a blast from the past. I remembered the song, but couldn't have told you who sang it or what it was called. It was just one of those things I heard when I was growing up, I have a feeling it was one of the ones that the local ice rink often used to play. Must have a listen to some of their other stuff to see if I remember any of that too.
