Specifically, Gaiman's version of Lucifer in Sandman, rather than the Vertigo spin-off, Milton (I hate Milton) or any other version.

I was actually thinking of the Vertigo spin-off, which was my favourite comic for the length of its run (well, maybe a year in, it took a while to get going).

Not that I didn't enjoy the Lucifer comic book, of which I have a large number of issues in store, but I just didn't feel the writers caught the true sarky humour that Gaiman gave him, or, for that matter, the complete amorality. My favourite scene is the one with him sitting on the beach, complimenting God on the sunset, but also telling him exactly what he thinks of him.

I thought Lucifer's self-serving nature in Lucifer was fantastic. He is entirely focussed on what he wants, and if other people get anything out of it along the way it's generally by coincidence. Honest to a fault, and completely ruthless. The ending of the series is one of my favourite things ever (both the conversation with God, and the final scenes).

That was the Lucifer I had in mind too.

Oh, this one had me torn, but much as I adore Avon, I actually think Steerpike is probably a better written character. I also like Spike a lot, but again I think the whole thing of him being rather fanciable clouds my judgement as to whether he is actually a well written character.

Consider me surprised, to say the least...

You'll be telling me next that your favourite rock vocalist with a pilot's license is David Lee Roth...
