I thought some of you might enjoy this New York Times review of the forthcoming TV adaptation of 'A Game of Thrones', especially if you're one of those women only watching it for the sex scenes.

"The true perversion, though, is the sense you get that all of this illicitness has been tossed in as a little something for the ladies, out of a justifiable fear, perhaps, that no woman alive would watch otherwise..."

That review makes me want lock the reviewer in a room with 500 fangirls for a few hours, and stand back and watch the results.

I second that, just on principle.

And me, on the grounds that the the crunching noise as all Ginia Bellafante's preconceptions about 'what women are like' are trampled into a squelchy mess would be quite amusing.

WTF? GRRM's "illicitness" is so totally for the boyz - mostly violent, and the women who get some are smoakin hot or wind up dead as an example of how gritty'n'brutal it all is. Well, it's as valid a reading as NYT's reviewers.

As I've got thoroughly bored with Martin's saga, I have no dog in this fight. However, I have to say that all the Martin fans (and there are a large number) that I've met outside fandom are women, and most of the really fanatical ones inside fandom are women too.

Come to think of it, most fanatical Richardians I've met are women too, and given the parallels...

I used to care passionately about this series and no doubt will follow the TV dramatisation with interest, but it would all be SO much better if George RR Martin would just damn well write more. Half of a story progression in ten years just doesn't cut it.

Even so, I'm still mildly enraged by the notion that the story is for boys. The review author just has NO idea.
