I had to look up who David Mitchell was, and when I knew my reaction went from "Who he?" to "Who cares?"

Regarding trains: we need to improve what we've already got before thinking about introducing fancy new high-speed links. If I had that sort of money to invest in the railways, I'd start by increasing the rolling stock so that the trains weren't overcrowded. (Some sections of route are particularly bad for this, and that's why I feel obliged to travel first class on them if at all possible; I'm unable to stand on a moving vehicle for more than ten or fifteen minutes without feeling ill, due to my low blood pressure, and I resent having to buy a first-class ticket just because I know that I will be in difficulties if I don't. I have no objection if I've actually chosen to buy one, as I usually do on the Sheffield-Doncaster route.)

I would then overhaul the existing track, signalling set-up and general infrastructure to ensure that it was fully sound. If I'd got any money left over after that, I'd start re-opening some of the old rural lines that were closed by Beeching.
