That lifeguard story shows you how limited a private company providing a public service can be if the management are more interested in money than service provision, the management don't like people going beyond the terms of the contract and fail to see that if the lifeguard was saving the man on his contractual patch then he still wouldn't be able to save anyone else, and exemplifies why a lot of coppers don't like the back-door privatisation of policing here that G4S's supporters in the current administration are trying to push through.
