Games to play on a netbook
I know that more than a couple of people reading this have netbooks, so they might conceivably be interested in PC Gamer magazines list of the 17 best games to play on a netbook. Some of them probably won't work well on the slowest of netbooks, but most will, and some of them are surprisingly modern...
Diablo II
Top-down point and click dungeon-bashing using randomly generated dungeons. Left click to where you want to move and right click what you want to attack. Rinse and repeat. Great fun.
Plants versus Zombies
From 2009! Zombies advance from the right of the screen. Plant flowers and vegetables to stop them. Very well-reviewed and the surprise hit of this year.
World of Goo
The big indie hit of last year. Physicsy puzzle game. Make structures of of blobs of goo.
LucasArts classic adventures
Not a single game, but all the old classic LucasArts point-and-click adventures like 'The Secret of Monkey Island', 'Day of the Tentacle', 'Sam and Max' and (my favourite) 'Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis'.
Trackmania Nations Forever
Free online driving game that is capable of making bunn feel really nauseous.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Amazing considering how good it looks, but this will run well on a netbook apparently. This is the Miami Vice inspired GTA game with a fantastic 80s soundtrack to match.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Morrowind
Fantasy RPG. The Elder Scrolls game before Oblivion. More free-roaming, but obviously not so pretty. Needs some tweaking to get it to run.
Dungeon Keeper 2
Like one of those management games where you run a city or a theme park, only here you run the sort of dungeon that D&D characters raid.
Audiosurf
Works with your music collection to create abstract courses which you then fly along while listening to your favourite songs.
Neverwinter Nights
D&D on a computer, or a reasonably close approximation to it. If you want to know more, ask chainmailmaiden to ask bacchus, who plays little else.
The Sims / The Sims 2
Surely needs no explanation.
Ultimate Doom
Again, no explanation needed.
Deus Ex
I shouldn't need to explain this either, since it is arguably the best computer game ever made, but it's not as well known as it should be. "A shooter RPG hybrid that all gamers should complete at least once."
Warcraft III
The third iteration of the RTS game that begat World of Warcraft.
Peggle
Strangely addictive computer bagatelle. I know that doesn't seem likely, but believe me, it really is strangely addictive.
Geometry Wars
Very famous on the Xbox 360. Top down arcade shooter that sort of works on a netbook with a trackpad.
Quake III: Arena
A proper FPS.
PC Gamer doesn't mention this, but I'm sure foradan would want me to add 'Dwarf Fortress'.
