Best put down of the host city and its inhabitants: The BBC's Clare Balding, explaining why the equestrian events needed to be held in the city and not out in the country: "Some of these people have probably never even see a horse!"

To be fair, it looks like London did a great job. Remember after Beijing when lots of people said that London could never be as good because we didn't have the authoritarian government necessary to provide massive amounts of labour? Turns out a free society can get better results by asking for volunteers.
