Cycling: Bradley Wiggins can do no wrong at the moment. His time trial win was dominating. But this prize has to go to a track cyclist. But who? Sprinter Jason Kenny? Keirin winner Sir Chris Hoy (now the most successful British Olympian in any sport)?, Hoy, Kenny and Philip Hindes in the team sprint?, Steven Burke, Ed Clancy, Peter Kennaugh and Geraint Thomas in the team pursuit?, Victoria Pendleton in the keirin?, Danielle King, Joanna Rowsell and Laura Trott in the team sprint? or Laura Trott in the omnium?

Well, it's certainly tempting to give the prize to Hoy, but I'm not. It's also tempting to give Vicky Pendleton a prize. She was unlucky not to win two more golds this year (losing out due to technical infringements) and would have been favourite to win two extra golds in Beijing if there had been all the extra women's track events there were this year. We'd then probably give her as much respect as we do Chris Hoy. Instead, I think I'm going to give her a special Best Romantic Gesture award for the heart sign she made towards her fiance when picking up her gold medal.

But the award for best British cycling performance goes to King, Rowsell and Trott for the women's team pursuit. The first time this trio rode together in competition, they broke the world record. The second time they rode together in competition, they broke the world record. And again the third, fourth, fifth and this, the sixth time.
