"Friending Frenzy"

The other day, the admirable Mister
andrewducker came up with a good idea the other day. I thought I would reproduce it, but I'll let him introduce it:
"Ok, I want to try and experiment. People intermittently post that LJ is shrinking and the number of posts on their flist keeps dropping. So, let's see if we can huddle together for warmth a bit.
If you're not currently overwhelmed with posts and using 7 filters to keep them under control then leave a comment underneath saying hi, and a little bit about yourself, and let's see if we can link some people together!"
Andrew's post is here: http://andrewducker.livejournal.com/2637649.html?page=1#comments I imagine he wouldn't mind you posting there, but why not start off by posting below. I'm sure that not everyone on my friends list knows everyone else who shares some interests with them. My own entry is the first comment below...

Date: 2012-01-27 11:06 pm (UTC)I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Magdalen College, Oxford. I work four days a week as a senior manager for one of the Big 4 accountancy firms concentrating on audit quality control and one day a week working as the finance director of my wife's web design agency.
Sceptic. Atheist. Right-wing libertarian. Environmentalist (sceptical naturally). Cat-lover (we have six cats at present).
Literature tastes: Mostly SF & fantasy; favourite authors include Tolkien, George R.R. Martin, Michael Moorcock, Jack Vance, Poul Anderson.
Favourite TV programmes and films include: Blake's 7, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Dallas, Top Gear, M*A*S*H, many sitcoms.
Sport: Oakland Raiders, Manchester United. I am an NFL draft enthusiast. I also like watching cycling (road more than track).
I created and help to run a major employment competition for 17 year-olds in Plymouth called 'You're Hired!'.
Other interests: Computer games (varied, although Football Manager addiction is my only vice), roleplaying games (especially Traveller, of which I am a serious collector). I generally build my own PCs.
I post about all of the above and welcome comments. I also make occasional semi-educational (and strictly non-partisan) posts about economics. These are denoted by the use of an Adam Smith userpic. I prefer people to follow most if not all of my "55 rules for debate in the modern world":

Date: 2012-01-28 09:42 am (UTC)Some of the people on my reading list are there because we share a specific interest, like greyhounds or history or dog rescue or the works of Ursula Le Guin or Rosemary Sutcliff, although it would be a bit dull if we did not venture outside of such topics. And some of them are there because I knew them way back. I suspect some people wander past to look at pretty photos of Cornwall, and I know some people wander past to argue about my over-analysed posts about Sutcliff and archaeology.
Anyway, that probably gives a flavour of who I am...!
