I thought I’d do something a little different with this Phligm Phlagm post. Instead of using links grabbed from Twitter or andrewducker, I thought I’d put up links to some of my own favourite LiveJournal posts. And by that I mean ones that I wrote.

Sort of a ‘Phlegmatic Greatest Hits’, or at least a ‘The Best of Philmo Phlegm’ compilation.

Another AKICOLJ question.

If you give a bloke a heavy bag with a handle to carry, he will probably carry it in one hand with his arm straight down by his side.

If you give a woman the same bag, she may carry it in the same way but she may also carry it in the angle of an arm bent at the elbow in a right angle with her forearm held in front of her. I've tried this and find it uncomfortable and tiring after a few minutes. Furthermore, I've never seen blokes carry anything like this.

So my question is 'Are female human arms somehow different from male arms?'

It is a sign of three things...

i) that I rarely wear a tie
ii) that I have increased in collar size; and
iii) that I seem to have a disproportionately large neck (in circumference at least)

... that I discovered yesterday that I don't actually own any shirts that I can button all the way up comfortably. I own lots of shirts that fit perfectly well, but since I never have cause to do up the top button, I didn't realise until yesterday that I actually can't any more.

Since it occurred to me that you never know when you're going to need to go to a job interview or a funeral or a wedding, I thought I'd better buy some shirts in a larger size. I'm not about to spend money on bespoke shirts (because I'm not rich enough / have better things to spend that kind of money on), but I was able to take advantage of a Charles Tyrwhitt sale to buy £400-odd worth of shirts for about £140. Fingers crossed that they're ok. I suspect they may be a bit baggy in every other measurement, but that's probably ok in shirts.
